THE SUFFERING OF DIVORCED MEN|

WOMEN ARE ON THE BACK OF THEIR EX-SPOUSES NOWADAYS
By Maritim Kipngetich
Women stalking men has been in the rise over the past couple of years. New generation is emerging considering the fact that initially men were the only people who would stalk women.
Let’s define what stalking means. According to the National Violence Against women Survey (NVAW), United States, stalking is repetitive pattern of unwanted, harassing or threatening behaviour committed by one person against another.
Stalking usually happens in the work place, at home, through phone calls, letters, unwanted visits by whoever is stalking the other person and being watched. The stalker may also use friends to know the daily doings of his or her victim. More often than not, stalking usually happens to people who were initially in the relationship or marriage. Many cases have been reported in the media with some victims of stalking deciding to air it in the social media in order to gag whoever is stalking him/her.
Beatrice Moraa is a third year student at the University of Nairobi and she said she has witnessed a man being stalked by his former wife.
“It was in 2011 when the two couples had a divorce over infidelity in the marriage. The wife cheated on the husband and unfortunately she contacted HIV/AIDS, but man fortunately never contacted the virus,” she said.
Moraa added that the lady has been watching the man wherever he goes. She said since the man got married to another lady, his former wife is not happy. She said in many instances the lady has been threatening to kill the wife of her former husband.
“The two were living in Karen, Nairobi, before they divorced. Since the man got married to another lady, they had to move to a different estate within Karen. The lady went to live somewhere in Langata, but she is often calling the wife of her former husband and threatening that she would kill her,” she narrated.
She said the divorced lady once stole the car of her former husband since she had a spare key.
“Later on after they divorced the lady accessed the house of the husband and stole his car. The watchmen knew the lady and therefore they never questioned her when she drove the car out of the compound. The lady had a spare key and she ran away with the car,” Moraa said.
The lady has been disturbing the man in his work place by paying him unwanted visits and calling him during the night, she said.
“The lady has been a nuinsance to the man since she always goes to his office and making phone calls during the night,” she said.
The people who are being stalked have no peace of mind since they are always watched wherever they go. There is no privacy especially when someone who is checking your daily doings is your enemy. This normally happens as in the story narrated by Beatrice with the people who were initially in love or in marriage.
